Annotate Bibliographies

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHIES

Overall Description:
You will be asked to create 2 annotated bibliographies in order to find, document, and justify the sources you have chosen to use for the GRP and the IRP. Class activities using the Guided Research Paper (GRP) topic will serve as models for you individual work, helping you to progress on your IRP.

Elements:
The Annotated Bibliography contains the following 4 elements:
1) the APA reference page citation, 2) a summary (4-5 sentences), 3) a relevancy statement (3-4 sentences), and 4) a reliability statement (1-2 sentences)

  • Annotated Bibliography Templates : GRP and IRP

    Choosing Sources
As a whole class, we will choose 3 sources to be used in the GRP Annotated Bibliography during class. These 3 sources do not include the organization’s website and should be peer-reviewed journal articles from the library website, preferably.

    Submission:
We will use class time to write GRP Annotated Bibliography. You do not have to work at home to analyze GRP sources further; however, you are encouraged to refine your writing at home before submitting the final copy. That will be a great practice for your IRP Annotated Bibliography.

    Feedback :
You would receive feedback for the GRP Annotated Bibliography first, but IRP will be graded without giving feedback. Feedback throughout the unit will help you to effectively work outside of class on the IRP Annotated Bibliography.

    Choosing Sources:
You should choose your own sources for the IRP Annotated Bibliography; however, the instructor will briefly check and approve of several sources for each of you to make sure that you are “on the right track.” You are required to find at least 5 academic sources, excluding the organization website. Because choosing sources is one of the most difficult and time-consuming tasks for the students, you will have a week and a half to find and decide on your IRP sources. Because of this time lapse, the IRP then becomes delayed behind the GRP for the remainder of the semester; a staggered schedule develops at this point, and the GRP and IRP are no longer happening exactly simultaneously.

    Submission:
You will submit a full annotated bibliography for all of your IRP sources.
Please note that the sources that you submit for this assignment do NOT need to be the sources that you use in the final paper. You are doing this to develop the skills of analyzing your sources by writing an annotated bibliography. However, if you decide to change sources for your IRP after the submission of annotated bibliography, you still should talk to me and put the additional source(s) into your IRP dropbox folder.
