Day11 : APA Style and Formatting


Objectives 
We will be able to...
  1. learn the basic formatting rules required for academic papers – font, spacing, alignment, margins, and indentation
  2. find multiple ways to execute the formatting in Microsoft Word
  3. practice applying the formatting settings to sample texts

Basic Information Brainstorming
What does formatting refer to? 
Was it ever important in your home country? 
Formatting is very important for academic papers and
strict rules need to be followed on all your assignments.

What do you remember about APA?

Jigsaw 1
Find a partner with the same colored question sheet. 
People with the same color sheet will work together to answer one of the sections. 
You can use the cheat sheet to help you answer the questions and each students should write answers on their own question sheet. 
Some of the questions are “experiment” questions 
which require you to use the sample paragraphs document
If you are stuck on a question, ask your classmate or ask me!
Jigsaw 2
Find people with the different colors of question sheet. 
Work together to teach one another what you learned from your section. 
Be sure that everyone has all the answers and can execute the steps by themselves on the computer.

Please think of a possible topic for GRP(Guided Research Paper) we are going to use as a whole class.

Use this Choosing a Topic Homework to complete the form.
Make a new folder "GRP" under your ESL115 dropbox folder.
Name the file "GRP_Topic_YOURNAME" and save it into your dropbox folder.
