Day24 : Reference Page Citations

Objectives: Students will be able to...
  1. Understand the function of the reference page as part of the research paper.
  2. Identify the rules and patterns of creating a reference list with books, articles, and internet sources.
  3. Navigate through the first section of the ESL APA handbook.
  4. Create and format an APA reference page given book, article, and internet source information.

Reference Page Introduction:
What is the purpose of the reference page?
Have you ever heard of citation?
What is the difference between an in-text citation and a reference list citation?

Detect the Patterns
What were some of the patterns you discovered from the sample reference page?
Do you notice it on all of the entries or some of the entries?
What about the spacing? Text font? Italics?
What are those numbers at the very end of those entries?
What kind of punctuation do you see?

APA Manual Distribution:
Now we have a “gift” to help you remember all these rules the APA Manual
Remember that is not an official reference, but a helper.
Notice how the sections of the manual match the two topics we discussed earlier -
in-text citation and reference page citations.
Today we are just going to focus on reference page citations for certain types of sources
(books and articles).

Reference Page Activity Sources:
Let’s pretend we are writing a paper using sources from our classmates and their publications.
The first author will be Student X.
Can you tell me the name of your book? The name of the publisher, etc.?
Reference Page Activity 1

Reference Page Activity:
Now that we have our list of sources,
open up a Word document and create an APA reference list based on this information.
Check with your neighbor to make sure that your lists are identical.

Homework
DUE Wed. March 13th
